I bought this to act as a Time Capsule for my Mac using Time Machine. I have never had any problems with it. I turn it on in the morning and I turn it off at night. No worries, problems, or frustrations.

I have 2 other LaCie hard drives and they both work flawlessly.

I had tried to back up an old computer with Windows ME, but some newer equippment (such as Ethernet card) that is supposedly compatable actualy isnt. This drive has connected effortlessly to Windows ME, XP, and Vista machines. Remember to click "Safely Remove Hardware" icon on taskbar before turning off drive.

Purchased this almost 2 a half years ago and its great. It's still alive today. It's great for backing up files, photos, music, and personel home movies. It's compatable to both PC/MAC. It's a good practice to have a secondary exerternal hard drive so that in case the 1st exerternal hard drive goes bad (unretrival data) you have a 2nd one to reply on.

I bought a Lacie 320 six months ago and newer took it out of my office. It worked fine for 5 months and afterwards it would not mount on any of my computers (MacBook and iBookG4). After trying all sort of things (restarting, formatting etc.) I send it to Lacie. Five weeks latter they said they could find any problem on it, but guess what? I still does not mount on any of my computers. If you have a Mac I totally discourage you to buy one.

futhermore, its fan makes an terrible noise. I just can't work with the dawn thing on.

We purchased LaCie to back up photo material. After only four months, with gentle use, the drive quit functioning and made a beeping noise. I called the company, they were very familiar with the problem and said the drive is broken and cannot be repaired. Also, the warrenty does not cover data recovery, and has stipulations regarding where one can have their data recovered without compromising the warrenty. What a disappointment.
