Hello!
I think that the two previvous reviewers should be crucified upside down.
They probably prefer Britany Spears!

Words cannot describe my intense dislike for Jimi's guitar "skills". This guy is a HACK. All songs sound exactly the same, the drummer is weak, does the bassist even exist? Listen to some REAL music that actualy requires talent- like Nickelback!

There is no questioning Hendrix and his influence on generations of musicians and guitar players and Are You Experienced is a definative records. From the opening riff of Purple Haze, the wonderful version of Hey Joe to the hauning Wind Cries Mary Hendrix's playing shines and still holds up after all this time.

Though there are many records released of Jimi, including some nice compilations/greatest hits, Are You Experienced, Electric Ladyland and Axis: Bold as Love are must haves.

."Jimmi Hendrix, baby beleive me, set the world on fire!"

In Eric Burdon's great song Monterey, about the Monterey Pop festival, is this prophetic line about the great one, and it turned out to be so true.

In his brief solo carreer,(he was once guitar player for the Isley Brothers for a time) Hendrix went from the opening act for an infamous Monkees concert, to one of the most influencial musicians of rock music. I can still remember the first time I heard this album as a kid, and still have the songs burnt into my brain after all these years.

So here's the deal,

This CD is a great commuting album, or a good introduction to youngsters about how there is much better music to be had than what is coming out these days!

You ask anyone knowlegeable of the history of rock, "What are the ten greatest rock albums of all time", and "Are You Experienced?" has to be one of them. It's almost silly to write a review of this album, as anyone looking at its contents can identify at least six or seven all-time hits - "Hey Joe", "Foxy Lady", "Purple Haze", "The Wind Cries Mary", "Fire", etc. You ask me, "What's the greatest rock debut album of all time?", and I'm having trouble thinking of one that tops this one.

  Editorial Review
As emblematic of its time as of its sorcerer-like creator, 1967's Are You Experienced unleashed Jimi Hendrix onto a world in the midst of such cultural and musical shakeups that it really didn't seem as "far out" as it actually was. It wasn't just Hendrix's virtuosic skill as a pure player that was so impressive; it was, even more, the range and scope of sheer sound that he coaxed, cajoled, and ripped out of his instrument. "Purple Haze," "Manic Depression," and "I Don't Live Today" filled ears with indelible sonic images, and songs like "Foxey Lady" and "Fire" pointed the way toward a new brand of rock-charged soul music. And how about a hand for drummer Mitch Mitchell? --Billy Altman
