2009-01-06I bought this hub to use multiple USB devices at the same time with my Sony VAIO laptop, which only has two USB ports. From the minute I plugged it in and connected all my equippment it worked nearly perfectly. I was able to burn a DVD with an exerternal USB burner while the .iso file I was writing to disc was stored on an exerternal USB hard drive. Both devices were connected to the PC via the D-Link DUB-7 USB hub. So the data was streaming from the exerternal drive to the hub to the PC back to the hub and finaly to the burner. It worked fine. Other hubs I have owned in the past had failed this test miserably. My only disappointment is that a USB optical mouse that works when I plug into the PC USB ports does not function while connected to the hub. I do not know why. The PC thinks the mouse is a new device and tried to download the driver from the web but it fails. This may not be the D-Link hub's fault but who knows?
Overall a great item. Better than many competitors.
2008-12-24Perfect for my needs now Im not trying to find extra USB ports on the computer.
2008-12-24The hub I got requires me to re-plug my usb cords in to a diffrent positon every time I turn the computer on or my devices won't work. D-Link customer service is an even worse joke. After waiting on hold for over 30 minutes (twice) I was disconnected. As I didnt use this right away it was too late to return. Money totally wasted. A peice of garbage.
2008-12-24Purchased so that I could plug my keyboard, mouse, and exerternal harddrive into my laptop. Works wonderfully powering the drive, which would not power itself off the computers built in hub, but has major intermittent keyboard/mouse issues. I'm using a Microsoft Natural Ergo 4000 and a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer - neither have given me problems plugged directly into the computer or other computers, but plugged in to this hub I get mouse dropouts (even the lazer light blinks out) and repeated key presses (every 1-30min, the last key I pressed will get typed a dozen times). This makes it incredibly frustrating when typing, and removes the value in the device. I've since plugged the keyboard/mouse directly into the computer and just have the harddrive on the hub - just as much of a pain as it was before when I have to plug/unplug everything to move.
2008-12-24simpley put, this product fails to do what it's supposed to do.
Even plugged in, it still does not seem to draw enough power to supply more than three plugged items reliably. I had a keyboard, dongle, MIDI interface and USB DAW controlller plugged in, and each time I restarted my computer, a diffrent item would be unrecogized.
I tried tech support, and they were useless. futhermore, they HUNG UP ON ME. Twice.
finaly a 'senior tech' issued an RMA for me to replace it, but I wasnt about to spend $10 to ship them a $30 unit, only to have it replaced with an identicial unit that probably wouldn't work as well. (There are plenty of other bad reviews here to corroborate my suspicions.)
I emailed customer support asking for a refund, but they simpley chose to ignore my emails. I even told them that I would be posting my bad experience here, but aparently they desided that they would rather have the bad publicity than issue a $30 refund. Tells you something about the company, doesnt it?
